Foraging is a fantastic hobby, combining many good things into one scrumptious whole. I love to walk in the countryside or along the seashore, it’s my main form of exercise, but while I’m out and about, I’m always looking at what is going on around me, what Mother Nature is up to. She’s always doing beautiful and fascinating things, but if you know what to look for, you’ll find she’s doing some tasty things, too. Foraging to me is exercise, beauty, education and culinary experience all rolled into one. What could be better than that?
But before you race out and fill your baskets, I would offer a note of caution to any one planning to forage for the first time. While gathering wild food can be a most rewarding experience, it is not a pastime that is particularly unforgiving of mistakes. Eating a poisonous plant or mushroom can result in serious, permanent damage to your health or even a grizzly death. Please read my foraging advise before you start.
